But if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our current politicians to get HR 676 passed into law before the elections. We will have to identify, and replace all the politicians standing in the way of passage of HR 676. And, I think the best first place to start is with the politicians that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bills for the kids. Passed by congress twice. But what about the President. It was Bush after all that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bill passed by congress to assure more health coverage for Americas kids. So which of the presidential hopefuls do I think will be most supportive of implementing the demand of the majority of the American people to have HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law immediately! We have some very fine presidential candidates who would make good presidents.

Habs, Crosby take over Leafs' national audience
I believe most cables/satetlites use CBC Toronto feed for HD, so we will propoably still get stuck with the Leafs. Tonight on NHL Centre Ice pacakge the Leafs are in HD. Both the Flames game and Canuck game is in regular feed only. My cable company is western based Shaw. This doesn't make sense. Posted 15/01/08 at 9:33 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
Today's Report
I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate. Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed- more on this story More on Nine Inch Nails - Nine Inch Nails CDs - Nine Inch Nails Tour Dates/Tickets - - Comments .
Contractor, state officials blamed for FCAT problems
Third-grade students made what appeared to be astounding progress on the reading portion of the 2006 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, or FCAT. A year went by before the Department of Education announced the scores were inflated because the exam had been too easy. Since then, the department and the University of Nebraska's Buros Center for Testing, hired as a consultant, have blamed the inflated scores on the placement of some questioned carried over from the prior year to maintain continuity. They were moved to the front of the test, where research has shown children do better. Jay Pfeiffer, the department's director of accountability research and measurement, told the Education Pre-kindergarten-12th Grade Committee that Harcourt Assessment, which designed the test, and the department must share the blame.
Genesco agrees to settle with Finish Line, UBS and call off disputed ...
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Genesco Inc. announced on Monday it has agreed to end a legal battle to compel Finish Line Inc. and UBS AG to proceed with a proposed $1.5 billion buyout of the specialty retailer. Genesco shares tumbled 21 percent on the announcement while Finish Line shares rose 32 percent. The proposed settlement, which must be approved by the companies' boards, would require UBS and Finish Line to pay Nashville-based Genesco $175 million in cash and 12 percent of Finish Line's outstanding common stock. Both Genesco and Finish Line boards were scheduled to meet on Monday on whether to approve the settlement deal. Indianapolis-based Finish Line and UBS had been trying to get out of the deal they offered in June, claiming that Genesco was not forthcoming about its financial situation.
Beyond the Multiplex
On the other, it was pretty much a ka-ching Christmas season for mainstream and independent film alike, and many of you who weren't dragged by family members to "Alvin and the Chipmunks" or the latest "National Treasure" installment saw other things. Moderately surprising other things, I have to say. We have a whopping surprise indie hit this winter and it is -- no, not "No Country for Old Men," although that will pile up plenty o' loot on the way to multiple Oscar nominations and beyond, and not Paul Thomas Anderson's massively hyped "There Will Be Blood," which has opened prodigiously in New York and Los Angeles but may prove too long and too dark for mainstream audiences. No, the avalanche-force, market-changing sleeper hit of 2008 is Jason Reitman's teen-pregnancy comedy "Juno," which rocketed to a box-office take of $26 million over the holidays and looks likely to take down "No Country" (currently at $42 million) as Indiewood's reigning champion.
Thin(ner) by summer
If you want to lose weight and shape up before summer, there's still time, nutrition experts say. By Easter, which is March 23, you could drop 5 pounds or more and lose some of your belly fat, which means your pants and jeans would fit better. By Memorial Day (May 26), you could lose 10 to 12 pounds and probably wear a bathing suit a size smaller than one you'd fit into now. And by the first day of summer, June 21, you could drop 15 pounds or more and wear shorts that are one to two sizes smaller than what you wear now. To accomplish these goals, you'll need to cut calories by 400 to 500 a day, burn several hundred extra calories a day through an aerobic activity such as walking and start strength training to tone muscle. So says Karen Miller-Kovach, chief scientific officer for Weight Watchers.
CORNER CUBE TUESDAY 2/26: WWE' opportunity at MyNet is network TV ...
Updated throughout the day from the corner cubicle, Torch columnist James Caldwell's weekday blog focuses on hot topic current events and other items of interest from around wrestling. Updated Tuesday, February 26 At first blush, the news of WWE signing with MyNetworkTV to be the broadcast home of Smackdown starting in September looks like a step down for WWE. They're going from the fifth broadcast network, CW, which combined the winners of the UPN and WB merger, to MyNetworkTV, which scraped together the networks that were left out in the cold. It's one step back, but it could mean two steps forward. The opportunity here is for WWE to have a sense of ownership on a network that's looking for signature original content to build advertising deals and create excitement for the network. CW was concerned about the lack of crossover viewership.
Startup gives young people device to simulate real driving
The Sacramento area long has stood at the forefront of efforts to improve traffic safety. In West Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol operates the world's top law-enforcement driver-training center. And east of the capital, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, born from the heartbreak of a Fair Oaks mother, has given a voice and mission to parents around the nation. Now comes a startup company in El Dorado Hills that is working to reduce car accidents nationwide via technology. Virtual Driver Interactive builds and markets simulators that take teenagers and 20-somethings on dangerous journeys where the consequence of failure is merely failing a test rather than inflicting real-life pain. .
Hominy & Hash
SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- There's no question our language changed with the advent of the computer. Where our parents had an address and telephone number, we now have an address, telephone number, cell phone number, web address (or, in the vernacular, a dotcom) an e-mail address and a "nick," which is how you're identified for instant messaging. Thirty years ago, citizen band two-way radios were the rage and along with our CB radio we had to register our "handle." My handle was "Rag Mop," and if that gives you a visual, well, you're probably right. All of those identifiers are something you set for yourself according to how you see yourself or how you want to present yourself. We recently went all wireless at home and the final selling point was that we could keep our own phone number.
