| Spanking Messes Up Sex Lives, Author Says
DURHAM, N.H. -- New research by a University of New Hampshire domestic abuse expert says spanking children affects their sex lives as adults. Professor Murray Straus concludes that children who are spanked are more likely as adults to coerce partners to have sex, to have unprotected sex and to have masochistic sex. Other studies have shown the link between spanking and physical violence, but Straus said his research is the first to show a link between corporal punishment and sexual behavior. He said his motive is to bring the results to the attention of parents and others. He said he hopes the news will help continue the decrease in corporal punishment. .

Editor's Notes: The sweet side of Little League
I jumped up on a soapbox last spring and complained about the prevalence of youth league baseball coaches who refuse to put players first. My 10-year-old son was one of 13 kids who tried out for a 13-member all-star Little League team in June. The callous and out-of-touch coach should have kept all the boys on the roster to inspire and help them improve.Instead, the coach cut my son and another little boy, blindly thinking the experience was about his genius, rules and whims. This guy never should have been coaching the team in the first place, but he was the decision maker, and his decision was final.Shortly after I wrote "The sour side of Little League baseball," my e-mail box filled with messages that ran the gamut. Most were supportive. Some were hostile.I violated sports taboos by complaining about my own kid, one message read.
Juicy issues for O's
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - The Orioles wrapped up their workout portion of spring training yesterday with the same number of questions that existed when pitchers and catchers arrived two weeks ago. They haven't settled on a fifth starter or a starting shortstop. They have vacancies in the bullpen and on the bench. All-Star second baseman Brian Roberts still could be traded, and one of their best pitchers, Adam Loewen, still needs to prove that he has recovered from serious elbow surgery and is ready to become a middle-of-the-rotation starter. The Orioles will play 29 Grapefruit League games, starting today when they open their exhibition season against the Florida Marlins at Fort Lauderdale Stadium. Here are some issues that will need to be addressed during that time: .
Failure Is An Option, Just Do It Early
A blog post of mine over on The Converging Network is getting some attention today. The post, Fail Early, Fail Often, is about viewing failures as something that shapes, crystallizes and forms successes over time. The key is to fail early in the life of a product or company because those failures end up being lessons about what works. And if you're too afraid of failure, you'll likely never push yourself or reach far enough to achieve much success in the world of competitive products. That's a lesson I've learned many times building products. As hard as it might be to hear at times, you want as much criticism, critique, praise, ambivalence, -- all of the feedback you might get because ultimately that's what shapes good ideas, products and companies into great ones. You can see that in Microsoft in so many examples.

St. Cloud native led NFL's kickoff
The NFL that will be on display today when the New England Patriots face the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII is a nationwide pastime, complete with lucrative television contracts and ad revenues, multimillionaire players and even wealthier owners. It's a far cry from the league's infancy, when teams sprung up in milltowns and industrial centers in the Midwest and along the Great Lakes. Most players had other jobs to make ends meet. The Duluth Kelleys/Eskimos were a big part of the league's early period, and a St. Cloud native played a key role — not only in bringing the team into being, but in its colorful on- and off-field exploits as well. That history is at the core of a film coming to theaters in April. The late Daniel "Doc" Williams, who attended high school in St.
