Pinellas: News and Notes

How much respect do folks at Academy of the Holy Names have for former St. Petersburg Catholic pitcher Deanna Henriott? Well, they invited her to throw out the first pitch of Wednesday night's SPC-AHN game in Tampa.

"Deanna is a great kid and was an awesome pitcher," AHN athletic director Pete Young said. "It was nice of her to drop by."

Henriott, an all-Suncoast performer who graduated last year, now plays for the University of Tampa. Among those who helped arrange her appearance at AHN were Ben and Laurie Vyzas, parents of Jaguars catcher Becky Vyzas. Becky, who is an all-county performer, will be one of Henriott's teammates next year at UT.

With Henriott watching Wednesday, SPC won 4-0.

Colts camp closer to returning to Terre Haute

Dorsey not concerned about injury rumors — Louisiana State defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, who figures to be among the top five picks in this year's NFL Draft, disputes reports that he continues to suffer from the lingering effects of a 2006 stress fracture of his right tibia.Dorsey had a physical at the combine Saturday but had not planned on working out for scouts. He had ratcheted down his pre-combine conditioning efforts after the recent death of his grandmother. The 6-foot-2, 316-pound defensive lineman was bothered by hamstring, knee and back injuries last fall, which limited his performance at times. He plans on performing for NFL scouts during an on-campus workout March 26 at LSU. After hearing scuttlebutt that he had not planned on attending the combine at all, Dorsey is taking all the attention in stride.

Aggreko set to take advantage of South African power crisis

Aggreko stole a march on its competitors a couple of weeks ago when it flew in its Africa specialist Andy Walker to address the African Mining Industry Indaba (get-together) in Cape Town," commented one leading broker.

"He warned of a looming power crisis and caught the attention of delegates representing more than 700 individual companies who now see the Scottish company as their first port of call."

Chief executive Rupert Soames is to deliver an update on the South Africa position on Tuesday when he is due to reveal a buoyant set of annual figures as a result of strong demand from other developing nations in Asia and South America as well as Africa.

Most analysts now believe annual pre-tax profits will show a near 50% increase to around £125.5 million and say that the group's Dubai-based International Power division will account for at least 60% of the total.

SPAMfighter: Global Economic Troubles Trigger Phishing Attacks ...

Phishing is when a scammer sends a fake e-mail, linking to a fake site where they in turn ask for personal information from the e-mail recipient. This information is usually bank information, which is then used to hack into their personal bank account. Phishing is very hard for a user to detect as both the e-mail and the site they are redirected to look very legitimate.

All e-mail users are at risk of becoming a victim of financial e-mail scams and identity theft, which is one of the biggest threats in the United States today. Nevertheless, protecting your e-mail account with the proper program could avoid and lower the risk of falling victim to this scam, says, Alix Aranza, Managing Director for SPAMfighter in North America.

The amount of attention on the global economic crisis has caused consumers to be more attentive to their financial assets, and in turn, an easy target for phishers.

The gaming industry has few doors, many windows

Getting a job in the video game industry is one of those tasks that is easier said than done. While a quick search shows there are certainly a number of open positions at different companies around the world, the San Francisco Chronicle reveals that employers are becoming increasingly picky about who they hire thanks to the fact that there is an ever-increasing number of applicants looking to enter the field.

Even though a plethora of students are graduating from gaming-oriented college programs, Matthew Jeffery's warning about focusing only on that field during one's educational career still seems to be holding true; developers are considering applicants who have more general degrees (such as in computer science or fine art), even though these programs don't always give their students industry-specific training.
