| Univision Battle With Televisa Places Programs in Jeopardy
A long-running feud between Univision Communications and the Mexican broadcaster that provides most of its programming is headed for a showdown in a federal court in Los Angeles. If Univision loses, it could see many of its prime-time shows yanked. While a dispute over royalty payments is the source of the current dispute, tensions between the two companies date back to bad blood between Univisions former chief, A. Jerrold Perenchio, and the late Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, who felt he got a bad deal in 1992 when the two men negotiated the original contract. If the Mexican company, Grupo Televisa, wins and pulls its programming, Univisions enterprise value could be chopped by more than $1 billion. The lawsuit centers on a program license agreement, or PLA, between Televisa, the dominant broadcaster in Mexico, and L.A.s Univision, the dominant Spanish-language TV network in the U.S.
Mourners pay candlelight tribute to seven young N.B. basketball ...
BATHURST, N.B. - The seven high school basketball players killed last weekend in a highway accident in northern New Brunswick were remembered Wednesday as loving sons, sweet brothers and trusted friends who will be loved forever in their heartbroken hometown. The funeral for all seven boys brought the city of Bathurst to a standstill as schools and businesses closed and about 5,500 people crowded into a hockey arena and an adjacent rink to hear the service. "You have lost your precious sons," Bathurst Mayor Stephen Brunet told the families of the boys. "We have lost seven future leaders. For a moment just imagine in your mind what they could have done." The boys' coffins lay side by side at one end of the arena, covered with sprays of flowers.

Conditions in P risons and the Treatment of Prisoners
Overcrowding remains the most serious problem in most Georgian penitentiary facilities, particularly in pre-trial facilities, and itself may lead to serious human rights violations.61 Overcrowding has been documented for many years by local NGOs, the Council of Europe, the CPT, and the United Nations Committee Against Torture.62 In 2001 the PACE monitoring committee noted, We were shocked by the dramatic overcrowding in the pre-trial detention centres, mainly in the section of adult men. It is hard to describe without emotion the circumstances under which human beings are kept. We described the situation to Georgian officials and explained that in the European Union it is not permitted to keep even pigs under such conditions.63 During its May 2006 review of Georgia, the CAT also noted the problem of overcrowding and recommended that Georgia should further reduce the period of pre-trial detention, expedite filling the vacancies in the court system and use alternative measures in cases where the accused does not pose a threat to society.64 The space allocated for prison cells in Georgiaboth in law and in practiceis significantly less than that required by regional human rights standards.
Pictures Reveal Truth About Japan’s ‘Scientific’ Whaling
New pictures expose the gory reality of Japan's so-called "scientific" whale hunt in the Southern Ocean, with a slaughtered adult minke whale and calf being hauled on board a Japanese factory ship. The release of the photos marks a significant shift in whaling politics, for they were taken not by the environmental activists who spent much of January harassing the whalers on their Antarctic hunt but by officials working for the Australian government. They were put into the public domain by the eco-friendly administration of the new Labor premier, Kevin Rudd, accompanied by withering comments from Australian ministers. For a government to become so strongly involved raises the stakes considerably in a dispute in which most of the international community is ranged against Japan.
Airman dies as 2 fighter jets collide during over Gulf of Mexico
Post a comment. View latest comments. EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AP) -- Air Force investigators were trying to determine the cause of an apparent collision of two fighter jets that killed one pilot during a training exercise. The single-seat F-15C Eagles crashed Wednesday into the Gulf of Mexico, said Col. Todd Harmer, commander of the 33rd Fighter Wing, 58th Fighter Squadron. The pilots had ejected and were rescued, but one died later. The base has suffered a "great loss," Harmer said in an e-mailed statement. "We will continue to do everything we can to assist our families and airmen at this tragic time." The condition of the surviving pilot and the names of both pilots were not released. The cause of the collision about 35 miles south of Tyndall Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle was not immediately known, Harmer said.

Only yesterday my friend in school showed me a violent rally being carried in Geo, and questioned me is this how Pakistani's are? Ashamed, I was left speechless. I guess some body has to get these people to shut up! Whats the problem with them? One day they say that Supreme Court is an independant organization dedicated in assuring the rule of law. And when this "lawful organization" verdicts against them then this independant organization becomes "an organization being pressurized by the dictator." If they can't gather enough support for themselves than they have no right to question those who are elected by the People of Pakistan. AliKhan, Pakistan Death merchants..Arab and Muslim leaders like to believe George W. Bush has their good intention. In a away they are right.Israel began butchering Palestinians fifty years ago; its slaughter house still operates all year round.

Government Workers Skip Telecommuting Opportunity
Advocates of telework say it can provide government agencies several benefits, including a way to remotely continue operations during a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Telecommuting can also ease the enormous traffic problems in the Washington, D.C., area, advocates say. Government employees need access to a good broadband connection and support such as a help desk in order to telecommute successfully, Brunson said. But it's easier than ever to telework, with broadband, mobile e-mail, easy-to-use video conferencing and other services readily available, he added. "Telework has grown leaps and bounds from five years ago," he said. "With the prevalence of broadband service out there, there are a lot of tools we have that we didn't have five years ago. With today's technology, [video conferencing] is pretty rock solid and almost utility-like." Employees have some responsibility to show they can telework, he added.
