| America Can't Ignore Al Qaeda's Resurgence
Four years ago, his words would have represented an almost unquestioned consensus view. In late January, the State Department's counterterrorism coordinator, Dell Dailey, described al Qaeda's top leadership as isolated, saying that they have "much, much less central authority and much, much less capability to reach out." He is not alone in this assessment. In July 2007, Stratfor's Peter Zeihan argued that while a few thousand people may claim to be al Qaeda members, "the real al Qaeda does not exercise any control over them. . . . The United States is now waging a war against jihadism as a phenomenon, rather than against any specific transnational jihadist movement." The most prominent proponent of this view has been Jason Burke, a reporter for London's Observer and the author of Al-Qaeda: The True Story of Radical Islam.

Swingle said in order for a law enforcement officer to be justified in using deadly force, he must act under the reasonable belief such action is necessary to protect his own life and safety and that of others. The only role of the prosecutor during an inquest is to "have the truth come out," Swingle said. Swingle said that the public nature of an inquest in this type of case can serve to quell speculation that anything is being swept under rug because the person in question is a law enforcement officer. According to Department of Corrections policy concerning fugitive apprehension agents, deadly force may not be used to make an arrest or to prevent escape unless there is reasonable belief that the suspect is attempting to escape by using a deadly weapon, or may otherwise endanger life or inflict serious physical injury unless immediately apprehended.

Interestingly enough, I've never met an unemployed one. Locking up the people who hire illegal immigrants (so they can avoid little things such as payroll taxes and workers compensation insurance) would go a long way in addressing the problem. Let's start with Mitt Romney. He's got time on his hands since he's stepped away from the presidential race. Yep, he's got the time to do some time - now there's a keen campaign slogan. If President Bush locked up Romney for hiring illegals, maybe some of their Republican counterparts would believe that he's really against the practice and this would lend credibility to his immigration reform. It does make a darling campaign slogan, "Got the Time to Do Some Time!" Wait. John McCain should use that slogan and call for Romney's arrest.
Occupational Hazard: Tinsley still not back
The trade deadline has come and gone and the one big deal that went down yesterday left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed. I don't like what the addition of Larry Hughes, another tweener guard, does for the Bulls' backcourt and especially Thabo Sefolosha's value. Drew Gooden is a better rebounder than Joe Smith, but the Bulls are going to be challenged when faced with big centers. The Cavs added a past-his-prime Ben Wallace for "firepower" as one Chicago paper had it. Last time I checked, 5.1 points and 8.8 rebounds do not equal "firepower." Wally Szczerbiak will hit 3-pointers while he's healthy, which should be a little more than half the time. And Seattle? All they did was clear the books in preparation for a move out of town. This was a depressing trade, where no one seemed to improve themselves all that much.

Then there are the big-ticket items, such as a $40,000 altar and matching lectern, and a roughly $60,000 set of mosaics (sold to a church in Washington State). Engineering to move to UHS site
After all, Yale Engineering facilities are already centralized in the area. Mason Laboratory is one building down from the current UHS site on Hillhouse; Dunham Laboratory and the Becton Center are both in the block between Hillhouse and Prospect Street; and Cesar Pelli's new Malone Engineering Center, the home of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, is across the street, its dramatic glass facade visible from UHS. The new engineering building has not been officially announced, although University President Richard Levin made a passing reference to it in his 4,345-word treatise released Feb. 18 on the prospect of building two new residential colleges. The earliest the University would be able to break ground on the new facility is 2011 or 2012, assuming UHS vacates its building by late 2009 or early 2010, outgoing Dean of Engineering Paul Fleury said, and that would be “on a very aggressive timetable." Fleury, who Vanderlick said had been pushing for the new building for several years during his tenure, is the new director of the Yale Institute for Nanoscience and Quantum Engineering.

I heard somewhere today that either the House or Senate is bringing up a withdrawal vote AGAIN sometime today... Ahhh the good ol' enemy within never stops. Burns me to no end. Now I am adding on to this...Fearless Leader Harry Reid brought up Feingold's withdrawal amendment today...again for the 35th time since the dems became the majority...35th time...can you believe this, now when there is major progress to-boot...they are still bickering on the floor, who knows when or if they have an actual vote, most likely by the end of their session this week. The leftists make me ill. .
