The department of local governments has withdrawn concessions to labour societies across the state. As per the new directive, labour societies would now be treated on a par with other contractors working for the department. Earlier, labour societies used to get preference in the allotment of contract. They also did not have to deposit earnest money while bidding for contract. Sources in the department said that the decision had been taken, as many fake labour societies were operating in the state. As per rule, a labour society is a group of labourers coming together to form a body to compete against private contractors. However, many persons, including local politicians, have formed fake societies to derive benefits meant for labourers. The members of such societies are fake and have almost never worked as labourers.

Clinton and Obama spar in Texas
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has accused rival Barack Obama of political plagiarism during a live televised debate. But Mr Obama brushed off the accusation that he represented "change you can Xerox", saying it was just part of "silly season" politics. The debate took place in Texas, which holds a crucial primary next month. It comes in the wake of Mr Obama's victory among Democrats living abroad - his 11th straight win over Mrs Clinton. Both the Texas and the Ohio primaries on 4 March are being seen as must-wins for Mrs Clinton, and Thursday night's debate at the University of Texas in Austin was a major test for her flagging campaign. Call for change "If your candidacy is going to be about words, then it should be your own words," Mrs Clinton said.
Solverson, Smith lead Iowa over Wisconsin
Iowa (20-9, 13-5) took a 20-4 lead in the first eight minutes and won as Solverson finished with 31 points and Smith with 20.Wisconsin (16-12, 9-9), which entered the contest with a five-game winning streak, cut the margin to one point at 69-68 on a pair of free throws by Janese Banks with less than five minutes to go, but was not able to pull out front.It finished with five players in double figures, led by Lin Zastrow with 17.Iowa's shooting percentage of 73.9 percent in the first half was its highest ever but Wisconsin was able to pull within 41-30 by the time it ended. .
