| POLITICS-US: Anti-War Marches Draw Hundreds of Thousands
Like many speakers at the rally, Mason expressed disappointment that so far the Democratic Congress' opposition to George W. Bush's Iraq policy has shown itself mainly in the drafting of non-binding resolutions against his troop surge. For his part, Bush has rebuffed those efforts.
"I'm the decision maker," Bush said Friday. "I've picked the plan that I think is most likely to succeed... I know there is scepticism and pessimism and that some are condemning a plan before it's even had a chance to work."
Like other speakers at Saturday's rally, trade unionist Fred Mason said Bush's intransigence means Congress should immediately cut funding for the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
"The American people don't want a surge in the violence and the deadly risk to their loved ones associated with this president's wrong-headed approach," he said.

Am I just not practical enough to hold my nose and go with a qualified woman? Clinton is to be respected for her intelligence, knowledge of the issues and consistent work for social justice.

Natchez pharmacy burglarized
NATCHEZ — When two men broke into Bill Ernst's pharmacy, they appeared to have only two things on their minds — get drugs, and get out. “They just busted out the glass and walked through the door," Ernst said. Ernst Pharmacy was burglarized just before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Adams County Sheriff's Deputy Maj. Jody Waldrop said the two men used what looked like a pipe to break out the glass on the door. Waldrop knows how the two men gained entry to the pharmacy because Ernst's son had the entire place wired with security cameras. The alarm, also installed by Ernst's son, notified the sheriff's office of the break-in and deputies were able to respond within approximately four minutes, Waldrop said. And while deputies were able to respond quickly, they were not quick enough.
Hostess Club Appeal Denied
The Central Area Planning Commission has denied an application to open a hostess club in the basement of a six-story building at 1240 S. Main St. The city's zoning administrator denied the project key permits in October. The case was appealed to the Central Area Planning Commission, which rejected the matter Jan. 22. Attorney Roger Diamond, who represents applicant Richard Fedoruk, said he plans to file a lawsuit against the city contesting the decision. "The zoning code allows the hostess club at that location, but apparently the planning commissioners feel that it is not appropriate for that location," said Diamond. "It doesn't make sense because there's another one nearby." In recent months, a spate of proposed new hostess clubs has caused concern among Fashion District stakeholders, who are concerned that the clubs could attract crime and are not compatible with surrounding businesses.page 2, 2/4/2008
